Although hearing aid technology has come a long way over the years, hearing aids are still fragile electronic devices that can be damaged or broken. We’re only human, and accidents happen. Maybe you’ve dropped your hearing aids in a puddle of water or the dog has gotten ahold of them.
If you rely on hearing aids to help you converse with others and go about your daily life, you know that it can be frustrating when your aids stop working properly.
No matter the reason your hearing aids aren’t functioning as they should, we will do our best to repair them for you at Woodard Hearing Centers. Don’t toss your devices in the junk drawer just yet. Instead, reach out to schedule a repair appointment.
Common Hearing Aid Repairs
There are many reasons why your hearing aids might have problems. Throughout our years of experience servicing hearing aids, these are the most common issues that we see:
Wax Buildup:
Too much earwax isn’t good for your hearing aids. Earwax buildup can cause the electronic components of your aids to stop functioning properly. Cleaning your devices daily is the best way to mitigate this problem.
Moisture Damage:
You probably already know that you should avoid getting your hearing aids wet, since moisture can cause corrosion. Sometimes, even with the most dedicated care and cleaning routine, moisture will make its way into your devices. If you’ve accidentally jumped into the shower with your hearing aids, don’t be too hard on yourself—it happens! To protect your devices from moisture, always store them in a dry place when you’re not wearing them.
Physical Wear and Tear:
Dropping or stepping on your devices can cause physical damage like cracks and loose wires. Always keep your devices in a protective case when you’re not using them, away from children and pets.
When Is It Time to Replace Your Hearing Aids?
Repairs can fix minor issues and mitigate bigger problems before they get worse. However, in some cases, it may make more sense to replace your devices. If your hearing aids are a few years old and no longer under warranty, replacing them may be the most cost-effective option.
When you visit us for a repair appointment, we will evaluate the damage and let you know what the best solution is. Our on-site lab allows us to perform minor repairs for you quickly. We can clean and sanitize your hearing aids, remove wax or debris, replace battery doors, and change ear hooks and tubing. If a more extensive repair is necessary, we can handle the repair order with the manufacturer. We’ll set you up with a loaner hearing aid customized with your hearing prescription so you aren’t without a device while you wait.
