What Stops Most People from Addressing Their Hearing Challenges?

by | Aug 5, 2024 | Hearing Loss

Every day, we receive calls from people who are concerned about hearing loss symptoms that they, or a family member, are facing. Often, they’ve decided to seek help because their symptoms have begun to impact their lives in a significant way.

Did you know that, on average, most people will wait seven years after realizing they’re experiencing hearing loss before seeking professional help? That’s seven years of missing parts of conversations with loved ones!

The number of people who decide to treat hearing loss versus the number of people who have hearing challenges is a big problem in our industry. Many people delay seeking professional hearing care until their symptoms are severe, and they find themselves isolated and frustrated.

Here at Woodard Hearing Centers, we are constantly raising the flag for the importance of regular hearing testing and early detection. However, many people still choose to ignore their hearing challenges.

Reasons People Avoid Treating Hearing Loss

There are two main reasons why someone may avoid seeking treatment for hearing loss:

#1. They’re concerned about the financial investment

Professional hearing care does require a financial investment. However, you shouldn’t let that deter you from seeking out treatment. Insurance coverage, financing, and payment plans can help ease the financial burden. We believe that everyone deserves access to great hearing care—regardless of their financial situation.

When you visit Woodard Hearing Centers for a comprehensive hearing test, we will help you determine the best options for you based on your lifestyle, preferences, and budget. We are also here to help you understand your insurance benefits and get the most out of your coverage. Remember—when you invest in professional hearing care, you’re investing in your overall health and quality of life.

#2. They don’t want to be a hearing aid wearer

Let’s face it: no one looks forward to the day that they need to rely on hearing aids. Hearing aids have a stigma of being the clunky, unflattering devices that you may associate with your grandparents. Thanks to advancements in modern technology, this is no longer accurate! Today, some hearing aids are so tiny that they are completely invisible.

Don’t let the outdated stigma associated with hearing aids hold you back from hearing better. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to hear the world around you clearly again?

How Can Professional Hearing Care Help Me?

No matter what hearing challenges you’re experiencing, professional hearing treatment can help. It’s important to seek out help as soon as possible. Untreated hearing loss can lead to other health problems, including anxiety, depression, and isolation.

We regularly hear from patients who visit our offices that they regret not seeking help sooner. People who came in skeptical and nervous leave feeling confident and grateful that they decided to begin their journey to better hearing health. If you’re experiencing symptoms of hearing loss, the best thing you can do for your health is to schedule an appointment with your audiologist for a hearing test.
