From the Job Site to the Range: Find Your Perfect Hearing Protection

by | Dec 4, 2024 | Hearing Protection

If you work in a busy environment with lots of noise, chances are that you’ve had a few workdays where you come home with your ears ringing.

Without the proper hearing protection to look after your hearing while you’re on the job or at the shooting range, your hearing will slowly deteriorate to the level that you won’t be able to hear the noise around your profession or hobby as well.

For construction sites, shooting ranges, performance venues, and more, custom hearing protection is essential to make sure you can do your job with the same strong range of hearing you’re used to, without the threat of noise damage.

Volume + Duration = Damage

Which do you think would cause more damage: listening to your lawnmower for thirty minutes, hearing the instance of a shotgun being shot, or jamming out at a rock concert that lasts two hours?

We measure sound in decibels (dB), and it works on a sliding scale: the louder the noise is, the less time we can listen to it without it causing irreparable damage. Any noise above 85 dB can cause serious damage.

The answer is the shotgun – at anywhere between 160 dB-170 dB, even just one second of unprotected listening will cause damage. A lawnmower measures in at a maximum of 95 dB, so you can listen to that for as long as it takes to mow the lawn. A rock concert can hit a maximum of 120 dB, so just twenty minutes of listening without protection will cause hearing loss.

The louder the volume and the longer the duration, the more damage you can unknowingly cause to your hearing.

Best Hearing Protection for Construction Work

From drilling to jackhammering, construction sites are often busy and loud spaces for even the people not working in them. If you work in construction, chances are you’ve felt the headache from noise exposure, and you’d like to safeguard your hearing sooner rather than later.

The best hearing protection for construction would be custom-molded earplugs or durable, certified earmuffs for noise protection. Custom-molded earplugs fit to the specific contours of your ears and help provide a comfortable acoustic seal, guaranteeing noise protection without suffering that plugged-up feeling or sacrificing the clarity of conversation.

Best Hearing Protection for Shooting and Gun Sports

For gun sports of any kind, noise-reduction earmuffs and custom-fit options will provide strong noise protection from shotguns and hunting rifles.

A gunshot may only be a split second of loud noise, but that sudden explosion of the bullet from the barrel can cause serious hearing damage without the right protection. Custom-fit earplugs can work wonders to protect your hearing from the loud noises that you deal with on the range.
