On a daily basis, we are accustomed to having many options and for the most part, we enjoy having these options. Based on our personal preferences, we are able to decide on everything from what sort of breakfast cereal we want to eat to the make and model of vehicle we want to drive, etc. And once we select our favorite car, we are allowed to choose, that’s right, more options.
I think we can all agree that having many choices is a good thing, but at certain times and in certain situations, a multitude of choices can be overwhelming. Options are great when it comes to deciding between Captain Crunch and Frosted Flakes…
But when it comes to your health, specifically your hearing, how do you know which of the many hearing aid centers to choose from?
What criteria do you base your decision on? How do you know that the time and money you spend will be worth it?
Here are a few fundamental guidelines:
First of all, any hearing aid center you select should be an AUDIOLOGIST ONLY PRACTICE.
Why is this important?
Audiologists are the most highly trained, highly educated professionals in the industry. In order to receive appropriate care, you MUST have a qualified individual overseeing your diagnosis, treatment and after-care.
Second, the hearing aid center you choose should be INDEPENDENLY OWNED AND OPERATED.
Did you know that many franchise hearing aid centers sell only one style of hearing aid? This drastically limits their ability to get you the technology you need. Hearing aids are not a one size fits all product and they should not be marketed and sold that way.
Finally, look for a hearing aid center that HAS BEEN IN THE COMMUNITY AND PLANS TO REMAIN INDEFINTIELY.
Because of the aging baby boomer population, hearing aid centers are springing up all over the place. The truth is many of these places will be gone just as quickly as they arrived and if you purchased your hearing aid from a company that no longer exists, what would you do if it needs serviced or even worse, if it breaks?
